Privacy and audience measurement
Visit Djibouti measures its audience with two tools: Google Analytics 4, for page views and traffic sources, and Microsoft Clarity, for anonymised session recordings. Neither loads before your agreement. The banner distinguishes Necessary, which is not a choice, from Audience measurement, which is unticked by default: refusing everything takes one click, and the footer lets you change your mind.

Who is responsible for this site?
The controller of the data described on this page is the publisher of Visit Djibouti:
Dalmar SASU Centre de leadership et de l’entrepreneuriat, Sans fil, Q6, Cpace Box 02
For any question relating to your data, or to exercise your rights, write to that postal address.
Which tools measure the audience, and what for?
Two tools, chosen to answer a single question: which pages answer visitors’ questions, and which do not. The site has no advertising, no retargeting and no data resale.
Google Analytics 4
It counts visits, their source (search engine, link from another site, direct access), the pages consulted and the time spent. It is the measurement that distinguishes a page that is read from a page that is merely opened.
What we voluntarily add to it: the type of page (home, hub, destination page, itinerary, article), the language and the section. That information consists of labels from our own templates, not data about you.
Microsoft Clarity
It records browsing sessions and produces heat maps: hovered areas, clicks, scroll depth. Those recordings show where a page loses its readers — an unreadable table, a button nobody finds — which no counter can tell.
Clarity is configured to mask content entered in input fields. No form on the site collects personal data.
Masking fields is not a setting we could have forgotten: it is the default behaviour of Microsoft Clarity, and the content of input fields is masked in every mode, with no possibility of switching it off. The masking mode retained is “Balanced”, the tool’s default: the text of the pages is visible in the recordings, the content of the fields is not.
What is measured, and what is not
| Measured | Not measured |
|---|---|
| Page views, source, duration | First name, surname, address, telephone |
| Type of page, language, section | Content entered in a field |
| Clicks on links to dalmar.app | Banking data — the site sells nothing |
| Internal search queries, truncated at 60 characters | Email address or number detected in a query |
Internal search terms are filtered before sending: a query that looks like an email address, or that contains a long run of digits, is not transmitted. It is the only place in the system where a visitor could write free text.
Consent: two categories, only one of which is a choice
Nothing is loaded before your choice. The banner presents two categories:
| Category | What it covers | Is it a choice? |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Storing your consent choice, on your device. It is the only thing the site writes, and it serves solely to respect your decision | No — it is not an option, it is a statement of fact |
| Audience measurement | The two tools described above: page views, source, type of device, anonymised session recording | Yes — unticked by default, changeable at any time |
Three buttons, at the same level: Refuse all, Save my choices, Accept all. Refusing is as simple as accepting, and it comes first in the reading order.
If audience measurement is not granted:
- no request is sent to Google or to Microsoft;
- no measurement cookie is set;
- the site works in exactly the same way.
⚠️ No advertising category is offered, because there is nothing to consent to: the site carries no advertising, no retargeting and no data resale. Advertising signals remain permanently refused, including if you accept audience measurement.
Your choice is remembered in your browser (local storage), and not on our servers: we do not know who refused. The Cookies link in the footer reopens the banner at any time, with your current choice displayed, so that you can change it.
Retention periods
| Tool | Data | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Clarity | Session recordings | 30 days |
| Microsoft Clarity | Heat maps, aggregated click data | 9 months |
| Google Analytics 4 | Data linked to a user | 14 months (adjustable: 2 or 14 months) |
Recipients and transfers outside the European Union
The data are processed by Google Ireland Limited (Google Analytics 4) and Microsoft Corporation (Clarity). Both companies are established in the European Union through their Irish entity, and their processing involves transfers to the United States, framed by the EU–US data protection framework and by standard contractual clauses.
No data is sold, rented or passed to a third party outside those two measurement tools.
Your rights
You have a right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over the data concerning you. To exercise it, write to the address given at the top of this page.
If you consider that your rights are not respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL (Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés), the French data protection authority competent for the publisher of this site: 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, or online at cnil.fr.
Changes to this page
This page is dated and versioned with the site. Any change to the measurement tools or to the retention periods will be recorded here, and the update date at the top of the page will change.
Frequently asked questions
Which measurement tools does this site use?
Two tools, and only two. Google Analytics 4 aggregates page views, the source of visits and time spent per page: that is what shows which pages are read and which are not. Microsoft Clarity records browsing sessions in anonymised form and produces heat maps: that is what shows where visitors click and where they stop. No other third-party tool is loaded on the site.
How do I refuse or withdraw my consent?
The banner offers Refuse all, Save my choices and Accept all at the same level, and the audience measurement box is unticked by default. The Cookies link in the footer reopens the banner on any page, with your current choice displayed. Refusing deletes the measurement cookies already set and stops all sending to Google and Microsoft.
How long is my data kept?
At Microsoft Clarity, session recordings are kept for thirty days, and heat maps together with aggregated click data for nine months. At Google Analytics 4, data linked to a user is kept for fourteen months at most, a value set in the administration console. Those durations are the ones documented by the two vendors, and they are cited as sources at the foot of the page.
Is my data used for advertising?
No. The site carries no advertising and practises neither retargeting nor data resale. Google's advertising signals are permanently refused, including if you accept audience measurement: measurement serves only to know which pages answer visitors' questions, and to improve those that do not.
Who is the data controller for this site?
The publisher of Visit Djibouti, Dalmar SASU, whose postal address appears at the top of this page. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights, write to that postal address. The competent supervisory authority is the French data protection authority, the CNIL, which is the authority for the publisher rather than for the reader's own country.
