No 5-day tour exists in our catalogue: the published durations stop at four days. This programme is therefore an assembly of real parts. A two-day tour at 35,000 Djiboutian francs, two day excursions at 8,000 and 13,000, a beach day at 3,000 to 4,000: our addition gives 59,000 to 60,000 francs per person, nights not included.

Why does no five-day tour exist?

Because the catalogue offers none. The published tours last one day, two, three or four days, and the grid stops there. We do not fill that hole by inventing a package: an itinerary proposed by us is not an offer, it is an organisational recommendation.

The consequence is methodological, and it is visible throughout the page. Each term of the programme carries the name of the offer it comes from and the price published for that offer. The total you will read below is not a rate: it is our addition, which you can redo line by line, and which includes only what the offers cited actually cover.

Five days, that said, is a good duration for the country — provided you assemble it yourself, accepting one constraint: two or three parts of the programme are not sold together.

Which assembly fits into five days, and why that one?

The reasoning starts from a documented constraint. Lake Abbe requires a night on site and the tours that include it last two to three days: putting it in the programme consumes half the stay. Five days nonetheless remain enough to cover the rift, the sea and a genuine rest day — provided you give up the Gobaad desert or the full north coast.

The assembly retained therefore starts from a two-day tour, the only published format covering both the city and Lake Assal. It is completed by two day excursions taken separately, then by a beach day deliberately kept light. That last one is not a luxury: in Djibouti, three consecutive land days are paid for in fatigue, and the heat decides the rhythm more than the agenda.

In other words: two organised days, two days à la carte, one decompressed day. The two-day page serves as the base; the following three days are three independent decisions.

What is the programme, day by day?

Day Offer used Price of the term What the term covers What it does not cover
Day 1 Two-day tour: Ville de Djibouti and Lac Assal 35,000 Fdj / pers. City, Lake Assal, transport and guide Meals according to formula, drinks, night outside the formula
Day 2 Same tour, second day included in the day 1 term Rest of the tour programme Same
Day 3 Full Day Excursion to the Moucha & Maskali Islands 8,000 Fdj / pers. Transfer and day on site, Gulf of Tadjourah Lunch (announced as not systematic)
Day 4 Beach Day Les Sables Blancs 3,000 to 4,000 Fdj / pers. Day on site, decreasing rate according to the size of the group Crossing, meals, drinks
Day 5 Full day at Ras Korali Beach from Djibouti 13,000 Fdj / pers. Return transport, day on site Meals, drinks
Nights 3 to 4 No offer cited covers them 7,800 Fdj the bungalow / night Four-bed bungalow at the Sinny Hill Center, Arta Facilities and meals not documented

Two warnings about that table. First, the two-day tour covers one night according to the formula: we do not know whether it is included in every case, and that is the first question to ask. Then, days 3, 4 and 5 do not leave from the same place: the island outing leaves from the port of Djibouti City, the Ras Korali day as well, whereas Les Sables Blancs are on the north coast. Take that line into account before booking the nights.

How much does this assembly cost, term by term?

The four terms are published prices, per person. The total is our addition: it is not sold as a package.

Term Catalogue offer Amount
1. Two-day city and Lake Assal tour Two-day tour: Ville de Djibouti and Lac Assal 35,000 Fdj
2. Day at the Moucha and Maskali islands Full Day Excursion to the Moucha & Maskali Islands 8,000 Fdj
3. Beach day at Les Sables Blancs Beach Day Les Sables Blancs 3,000 to 4,000 Fdj
4. Full day at Ras Korali Full day at Ras Korali Beach from Djibouti 13,000 Fdj
Total of our addition, four days, per person — 59,000 to 60,000 Fdj

The detail of the addition, so that it can be checked: 35,000 + 8,000 + 3,000 + 13,000 = 59,000 on the assumption of the group rate at Les Sables Blancs, and 35,000 + 8,000 + 4,000 + 13,000 = 60,000 at the rate for a single person. That is 59,000 to 60,000 Djiboutian francs per person for four days of activities, excluding nights.

What that addition does not contain, and which we refuse to estimate: meals and drinks, taxis in town, airport transfers, tips, travel insurance and the visa. The catalogue publishes no catering price: the line is missing, it is not zero.

Nights are counted separately. Three nights at minimum, four if the tour’s night is not included. At the four-bed bungalow of the Sinny Hill Center, at 7,800 Djiboutian francs a night: three nights make 23,400 francs, four nights 31,200. That price is that of a bungalow, not of a person — shared four ways, it comes to 1,950 francs per person per night, and the complete assembly then falls to around 64,850 francs for five days.

Which variant reduces the bill?

The first term is the heaviest, and it is also the one with a published alternative.

Economical version of the same tour: the two-day “Djibouti city and Lake Assal” tour is published at 15,130 Djiboutian francs per person, when the classic formula of the same announced programme is at 35,000 francs. By replacing term 1 with that version, the addition becomes 15,130 + 8,000 + 3,000 + 13,000 = 39,130 francs, which is 19,870 francs less than the classic version.

Mind that gap, it is among our catalogue’s anomalies. An identically announced programme cannot cost double without reason: either the basis of calculation differs — group size, category of accommodation, number of meals — or one price is wrong. The same anomaly exists between a three-day tour at 44,500 francs and a two-day tour at 55,000 for a similar programme. In both cases, ask for a written quotation that details the nights, the meals and the vehicle before choosing.

Three other levers, all documented. Taking the beach day at Les Sables Blancs in a group of six to twenty brings the term down to 3,000 francs per person. Replacing the Ras Korali day with the version leaving from Arta, published at 8,000 francs instead of 13,000, saves 5,000 francs if you are already sleeping in the Arta region. And sharing the bungalow four ways divides the night by four.

What does not fit into five days, and why?

This is where the honesty of a five-day programme is decided. Four sets stay outside.

Lake Abbe with bivouac. It requires a night on site, and the published tours that include it last two to three days. Adding it means choosing the two-day Lake Abbe and Lake Assal tour at 55,000 francs and devoting half the stay to it — at the price of the islands, the coast and the rest day.

The full north coast: Tadjoura and Obock. It is reached in 45 minutes by fast boat, an hour and a half by ferry or 180 kilometres of road for Tadjoura, and the tours that cover it are three-day formats. Over five days, it competes directly with the city and Lake Assal tour. You have to choose one or the other.

The south: Grand Bara and the Abourma engravings. No offer cited here covers them, and access assumes a 4×4 with a driver. The platform’s commercial display places that vehicle around 44,000 Djiboutian francs per day — an amount that is neither a catalogue price nor an official rate.

Scuba diving and the Seven Brothers. The supervised outings to Moucha are published at 10,000 and 12,000 Djiboutian francs, the whale shark outing around 25,000 within the window from 15 October to 15 March fixed by decree. Each fits into half a day, none slots in without removing another day. At five days, you add an activity, not a site.

What should you ask for in writing before booking?

Four questions, in this order.

1. Is the tour’s night included? It decides the number of nights to book alongside, and therefore the real amount of the assembly.

2. How many meals are included in each term? The catalogue does not detail the tours’ meals, and two offers at the same price can hide two different contents. It is the item where the gap between the advertisement and the bill most often widens.

3. Which vehicle, and for how many people? The price per person of a tour depends on how full the vehicle is. A rate displayed for a group of ten has nothing to do with the same programme in private.

4. What are the departure times and points? The assembly makes three different departure points coexist — the port for the islands, the town for Ras Korali, the north coast for Les Sables Blancs. That is what decides where you sleep.

Finally, one precaution that holds for the whole stay: allow a margin between the last day and the return flight. A rough sea or a vehicle breakdown is hard to absorb when the plane does not shift.

Frequently asked questions

Does a five-day tour in Djibouti exist?

No, not in our catalogue: the published tours last one day, two, three or four days, and nothing beyond. The page you are reading is therefore not a package we would sell, but an assembly we recommend, built only with real offers and their prices. Each term of the addition carries the name of the offer it comes from.

How much does a five-day stay in Djibouti cost?

By assembling four documented parts — a two-day tour at 35,000 Djiboutian francs, a day at the Moucha and Maskali islands at 8,000, a beach day at 3,000 to 4,000, a full day at Ras Korali at 13,000 — our addition gives 59,000 to 60,000 francs per person. Nights outside the tour, meals, drinks and transfers are not included in those terms.

How many nights should you plan for five days?

A five-day stay counts four nights. The two-day tour covers one night according to the formula, to be confirmed in writing. That leaves three nights at minimum, four if the tour's night is not included. The four-bed bungalow at the Sinny Hill Center is published at 7,800 Djiboutian francs a night: three nights make 23,400 francs, so 1,950 francs per person per night if shared four ways.

Can you do Lake Abbe and the islands during those five days?

Yes, but not both in full. Lake Abbe requires a night on site and the tours that include it last two or three days: the two-day Lake Abbe and Lake Assal tour is published at 55,000 Djiboutian francs. Including it consumes half the stay. Conversely, this programme keeps the islands and the coast, without the Gobaad desert.

Should you book each day separately?

Yes. The four parts of this assembly are distinct offers, with their own departures and their own conditions. Nothing guarantees they chain together without friction: ask for the departure time, the meeting point and what is included for each. A boat day books early in the cool season, when boats and camps go first.
